| Do you use a surge protector for your computer or other electronic devices? | | If you do use one, which you should, which one is best to use for a computer and other electronic devices? We get brown outs quite a bit here and occasional power outages so it is important to have one to protect the computer. Any recommendations on a good one? Here is a picture of the one that I am using currently. | |
| | What do you think of when it's raining outside? | | I tend to think of ballads with the word rain. When I was 15, I listened to R & B more than I do now. However, the 2 songs I remember are by Boys to Men and a Janet Jackson duo. The first one is called, "Can you stand the rain?" I love this song! The other is called, "Making love in the rain" via Janet Jackson and some guy I cannot remember. The rain also inclines me to bust out with my comfy Garfield slippers, and with my zip-up robe. All I need now is hot chocolate. I hope I don't get zapped writing this (Thank you-know-who for surge protectors)! | |
| | Do you protect your phone lines during a storm? | | I know that many people use surge protectors for their electronic equipment but what about your internet connection and telephones? Do you use surge protectors on those as well? Several years ago lightening struck the pole in front of my house and fried all of the phone lines. It also fried the modem in my computer but, fortunately, didn't harm the cpu. Even an indirect hit close to an electrical transformer can send a power surge through all of the lines on the pole so, if you don't currently protect your phone lines from power surges, I highly recommend that you do. | |

| Ethnic comments - do you make funnies about your heritage | |
Last Sunday I woke up to find that my previously working computer was non-functional[em]sad[/em]. We were driving along the interstate to get it fixed when my husband and myself saw a truck towing a row boat, the name on it wasPolish Yacht. We laughed hysterically at this.[em]lol[/em]Now both my husband and myself are Polish and we did not find it offensive but I know my father would have found it offensive. So my question is -- do you tell jokes involving your own ethnic background? Do you find it funny if someone of another ethnic background tells them? Can you laugh at yourself? Do you think people are just too sensitive about these types of things? BTW - The computer was affected by a power surge, it is fine now, as you can see - but get surge protectors if you don't have them and replace the old ones....they wear out!
| | Do you ALWAYS turn off the computer when a thunderstorm starts? | | I don't. Like right now. I hear thunder, I got a thunderstorm warning from my weather alert on my desktop a few minutes ago, but here I am, sitting here... I hate having to turn the computer off just because of a stupid storm. Lately I've been either brave or foolhardy and haven't been doing it. Should I? Does anybody else live dangerously like this? I do have my hard drive backed up regularly. | |
| | How many open outlets are available after everything is plugged in? | | We move a lot so finding an open outlet after the computers are set up and the alarm clocks are plugged in and the cell phones are being charged... I think there are about 5 open outlets, wait 4; I need to plug in a Glade Scented Bulb. Check out your available outlets and get back to me. | |

| Do you turn off your computer in a storm? | | Here in Queensland, we are having a spring heatwave just before summer hits or so the weather bureau says - I have only ever said as long as I can remember that we only get winter & summer, no inbetween stuff...
Anyway, we had another summer storm this afternoon...it was enough to make me turn off my computer as it's not plugged in to a surge protector & I didn't want to risk frying my computer during the storm. 3 hours later, the storm is still hanging around - it's either the same storm that has turned around or a different one.
Do you turn off your computer during a storm? Why or why not?
