| | Are you a PackRat or Know someone that is.... | | Do you find yourself keeping thing you know you probably won't ever use? Possibly have a family member or friend who keeps everything they get and it just piles up until you have to find places to put items inside.
Do you find most of their collections outside the home, old cars, motors, household items that are broken but just out on the lawn? A few weeks ago, I went to Atlanta to visit family and friends, I went to a friend house to hang out for a while as I was in town. The outside of the house was nice, clean yard, paint on the house was nice, landscaping was very good...But one I got on the inside of this 2 story home that had a basement, it was filled with things I wondered, why do they even have them. Old sewing machines, computers, books, old tables etc...I was like wow, and the first thing that came out her mouth was, "Man, I got to start throwing some of this stuff away or give it away" My thought was like why even let it get like this in the first place, futhermore, what caused one to even want to just keep unwanted, or un-needed things in the first place...
Are you a packrat, or know someone that is...Are there things you see that you wonder why they still got it...
| | Tips on my sewing machine | | Everytime I sew I have trouble with the bobbin. It seems to spin up and the thread gets all knotted up. Is there something I am doing wrong?? | |
| | Sewing | | I was thinking about getting into sewing. I've never really done it before. How much are sewing machines and fabric? I can never seem to find clothes that fit me, this way the clothes would be to my measurements. Also this way I would have clothes no one else has. Is it hard to get started? | |
| | Quilting Is A Family Tradition | | When I was a child, my mother taught me to sew. We did not have a sewing machine but that did not prevent us from sewing. We made alot of our own clothes out of feed sacks. We made quilts from clothes that wore out so bad that we could no longer mend them. Even though they were worn out, there was still alot of usable material for quilting. We had to sew everything by hand.I remember when we got our first sewing machine. My dad bought it at an auction. It was a treddle machine. I loved to use that peddle. It was great exercise for my legs. We found that it was much easier to make quilts and clothes with this machine. It was so much faster too.Today we have such nice sewing machines and the material shop has a large selection of material. We can even purchase premade quilt piece patterns. With all these modern supplies, Quilting is very easy to do. Yet many are intiminated by the thought of making their first quilt. I taught my daughters to quilt. I even enrolled us all in a quilting class that was given in our community. I expected there to be alot of people attend this class as it was free to the public. Imagine my surprise when we were the only ones to show up.... | |

| | Sewing | | Are there any sewers out there? Who do you sew for?
What sort of sewing do you do? For what reasons?
I have been sewing all my life, both out of necessity and for enjoyment. Currently most of my sewing is mending and a bit of quilting. Also just puttery little projects such as making tote bags or make-up bags.
I have used a huge variety of sewing machines in my life, all the way from the Wal-Mart cheapies to top of the line machines, both new and used.
