| | The Lenten Season | | Here in the Philippines a lot of traditional activities are done during the Holy Week. There are some who visit churches and stay there for vigil, there are some who sing about the passion of Christ which we call "pabasa", there are those who carry the cross in a procession and then have themselves nailed to their crosses.I always remember watching religious movies on TV. There's also the Way of the Cross where people join the procession and stop at every station and pray. There's the Visita Iglesia where we went to 7 different churches and prayed in one night and we walked all the way til we got home later. It was fun because there were many of us so we didn't notice the distance and it wasn't very tiring. On Easter we would go to mass early in the morning. There's the easter egg hunt which I experienced only recently. A lot of Filipinos would also go swimming on Easter Sunday. What about you? What traditions do you have in your country? Which traditions do you and your family follow? | |
| | What do you do during holy week? (Especially Good Friday and Easter) | | OMGosh! Holy week again! Time flies bloody fast. I remember when I was growing up, Good Fridays has always been quiet, hot (summer) and just laze around watching a marathon of religious movies on TV. We weren't allowed to play outside as elders tell us that accidents are bound to happen and if we get scratched or wounded, it will take time to heal! REASON: because Jesus is being tortured and will be dead so God can't watch over us. FISH is always served, no meat! (My grandma used to tell me if I eat red meat on Good Friday then I am eating the blood of Christ). Oh yeah, grandma would cook big pans of yummy sticky rice cakes and Taro. I never knew about Easter eggs and bunny rabbits until I was about 8 or 10. A friend asked me and my siblings to bring eggs so we can boil and decorate them. I must have kept those eggs until it smelled off in my room! I didn't realize we can eat them! LOL!So do you have family traditions during these days?
