air conditioners Discussions
| Air condidtion in the WINTER?! | | Yes, you know... the time of year where it's already freezing=| A girl I used to be friends with, in her home they kept the air conditioners in the windows all year. I used to spend the night at their home a lot of weekends, and lo and behold in the wintertime before we'd go to bed, she'd get up and TURN THE AIR CONDITIONING ON.Now, anyone who is friends with me knows that I'm always cold[em]lol[/em] always, no matter what. Now I have no problem if someone else is hot and needs to open a window or something, but this girl had the AC on full blast in JANUARY. Whodoes that?! She said that she was always hot, because she was overweight. And I'm thinking... that isn't my fault, why do I need to freeze because of it?[em]lol[/em] Not really that harsh, but does anybody else do this? Leave the AC on all year that is. It just struck me as strange, being someone who's cold allll year round xD | |
| | How much money do you spend on your electric bill for summer versus winter? | | During the summer time our electric power bill goes
up to $150 or more. Some of my friends have said that they spend up to
$300 every month on electricity. And I don't doubt it!
The only reason that we skate by with such a big savings
is that we don't have central ac, so instead use
window air conditioners. One of our newest window AC units only costs $46 yearly to use! There's no way to ever cut off the AC during the summer time,
cause it gets so hot and stifling in our house. To make matters worse, we have bad insulation, so the
heat comes right through the walls.I save money elsewhere by being more conservative on food
and other expenses. We watch free movies online
instead of having cable. And, I cut corners during the fall and spring by
not running the AC or heater. And, instead use fans
throughout the house. It's so nice in our area during those times and rarely cold.
During those times, our electric bill goes down to $85.So it evens out to less than $100 monthly year round.
I'm still looking for ways to cut costs on electricity.Do you have any money saving suggestions for cutting the
electric bill? How much money do you spend...
| | Electric bills | | How much is an average for your electric bills per month?mine usually will range anywhere from $196-$320 per month.I have an overdue bill right now that I need to pay which is $400.Do you ever get your electric cut off because of overdue payments? We have once gotten cut off.Now I try to make sure that is the first bill I pay.I cant go without my air conditioning, its too hot! | |
| | | Do you sleep with comfort of A/c or Fan? | | While most of the people sleep under comfort of air conditioners, others sleep under fans. Many others even do not have that facility also. How about you? Do you sleep under A/c or fan? When electricity goes off, what is your alternative? | |
| | How Do You Keep Cool? | | What do you do to stay cool in the hot summer weather? Especially if you don't have air conditioning? Do you live in a house with shade, an apartment building, a mobile home, or some other kind of situation? Do you have air conditioning? What kind? Window air conditioners or central air?
I live in a mobile home with no air conditioning. It is really hot. There is no shade at all and all it takes is for the sun to shine and be 75 F outside for it to start getting unbearable here. The landlord only has a tiny air conditioner that doesn't cool off very much so I had him remove it. The worst thing is that part of the windows don't work right so I don't get as much fresh air as I would like to have. I hate a/c unless it is really hot. I would rather have the fresh air. Anyone else out there like me? Sometimes my health seems like I really need the a/c, so I am looking for somewhere else to move to. But I have been looking since last fall. Haven't found anything I can afford yet. In the meantime, I have a few tricks I use to stay cool. Ice packs, or getting my shirt wet and sitting in front of the fans whenever possible.
What kinds of things do you do to keep cool?
| | How Do You Beat The Heat Without Air Conditioning? | | It's hot and muggy here where I live and shows no signs of cooling off any time soon. I do have air conditioners in several rooms, but with the price of electricity, I'm not using them all the time and usually only when we are sleeping. My question is, how do you beat the heat without air conditioning and what works for you? I do have fans and they help somewhat, but what other things can I do to keep myself cool during the day without turning on the A/C? | |
| | Something strange happened to me. Maybe it's the evil spirite:( | | About 2 weeks ago, I worked late into the night, when I walked out from my room I felt very cold suddenly but the temperature was 30 degree centigrade, the air conditioners were powewed off. And I stared to shake-my feet, my lags, my hands, even my chin. I was scareing that seems something fearful was staring at me. After I slept a nightmare came to me. I dreamed about a huge room-I could see the ceiling but couldn't see the walls. There were two beds in it. I lied in one, and I saw a little girl sat on another one. She was looking at me with a paly and evil smile. Then I waked up but soon fell sleep. I dreamed abaout the little girl anew. The whole night I repeat this nightmare again and again and again...When I was awaked, I couldn't move my body, even a finger...

| | Have you ever sold anything on Craigslist? | | Today for the first time I finally listed two window air conditioners we have had sitting in the garage for eons for sale on craigslist. It has been less than 6 hours and I am pretty confident they are sold. (Just waiting for the person to pick them up!)Have you ever sold anything on Craigslist before? Did you find it this easy? Or am I just lucky since I'm selling them cheap (two for $75) and it is the middle of July?If you've ever sold anything on Craigslist before, feel free to share with me your story - I may be selling even more stuff now that I know it's this easy! | |
| | What's Your Temp? | | I normally keep my air conditioners temperature at 72 at all times. I guess the baby must have pushed the button last night and set it on 64 because it is really, really chilly in here this morning. What temperature do you have your air conditioner set on? | |
